Monasterio de Santa Catalina Travel Photo Essay – Arequipa, Peru

I wasn’t sure I would be interested in visiting a monastery when I arrived in Arequipa, Peru.  I had heard that Monasterio de Santa Catalina was remarkable but I just wasn’t sure a monastery could be that interesting especially after all the churches I’ve seen throughout Latin America.  Boy was I wrong!  This isn’t just a monastery, its a whole walled city in the middle of the larger city of Arequipa.  It boasts winding streets, vibrantly colored buildings, and dramatic architecture.  So what I thought was a good day to spend a boring afternoon, turned out to be a ton of fun to explore and photograph.  Enjoy the pictures!
